Teaching Philosophy
A good art teacher possesses characteristics that help students learn about themselves, the people, and the world around them. They need to be motivated each day to introduce the world of art to their students, and be able to communicate ideas and techniques of art. Being an arts advocate and becoming familiar with the commonalities that the arts have to offer is extremely important. A good art teacher needs to be familiar with all arts and the curriculum to communicate to parents, teachers, and administrators the importance of the subject and how to become engaged in it.
The concepts that are taught by the teachers must be used in a variety of ways so students can learn and develop the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed. This is why curriculum is important; it should provide the guidelines that give the sequential steps to a students' learning based on their age. Teachers need to be able to understand the cognitive stages in their students' lives, and help develop the tools to aid their students' ability to discover. The teacher needs to use a variety of approaches to enhance the experiences that help bring education to the highest level.
Student's social acceptance plays a critical role in the structure of their education, experiences and interests. The schools have the responsibility to provide each student a positive social experience. Students need opportunities to be part of a team, and are accepted by their teachers and peers, I believe teachers and schools need to create positive atmospheres where the students feel safe and secure just being themselves.
The community, parents, and schools must work as a team to ensure that each student learns. As a team, they must guide the children to become successful, responsible, independent, caring, respectful, creative and productive adults. It is extremely important to guide and encourage each student to become self-disciplined and motivated learners who will take an active role in their own education.
I believe the schools need to enforce freedom and responsibility. The students should be encouraged to make decisions that will affect them. Schools and teachers need to promote leadership and teamwork. The students should have an hands on involvement with their schools, communities, and real world experiences. These experiences should provide students with the self confidence to enter the world as a responsible adult.
